    Oversized Load Passing

Oversized loads have a permit with defined routes. The driver of the oversized load must adhere to these routes. If he goes off route, then he would get into trouble. You never know if there is a low structure or road work.
There have been many times that we have been permitted to run on some really bad routes. If the load is 15 foot 6 inches wide, it is hard to keep in one lane. Especially if there is no shoulder, cars parked on the sides of the road, telephone or electric poles right next to the road, or even outcroppings of rocks. Even tree branches and lines have to be missed on many loads.
The average lane width on many roads are 10-12 foot. If you see construction near the oversized load, he will probably need to take both lanes. Do not attempt to pass an oversized load where construction barriers are in place. This will cause an accident.
It would not kill a person to move over a little when passing or being passed by an oversized load. This is just common sense and common decency. I know those are not so common anymore but try it. The drivers will appreciate it and you will stay safe.
Our saying is “the bigger the load, the smaller the road”.
Always remember that any load over 12 foot can not fit in one lane.
If you see a pilot car around the curve, slow down. He/She is letting you know that an oversized load is coming towards you.
